A heritage home stripped back and rebuilt around sculptural concrete, with floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolving the line between inside and out.
The Brief
Restore a heritage home to its best self while extending it with a contemporary addition confident enough to stand beside the original.
The Build
The interior was completely stripped out to make way for new linings and finishes throughout. The extension is defined by concrete used as craft: architectural off-form seats and plinths, burnished concrete floors, an off-form concrete ceiling, and the centrepiece, a sculptural concrete island bench. Floor-to-ceiling glazing with large concealed stacker doors opens the living space entirely, creating a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor.
The Result
A home with two honest characters, heritage at the front, raw and refined concrete craftsmanship behind it, each making the other stronger.
