The Brief
Keep the street-facing character of the original North Melbourne home while replacing everything behind it with a modern, light-filled family residence across four levels.
The Challenge
Preserving and restoring the front facade while underpinning shared foundations demanded careful structural staging. The entire internal structure was demolished and rebuilt, with a new basement excavated beneath the existing footprint.
The Result
A completely new home behind a faithfully restored facade: basement, ground floor, second floor and a rooftop terrace. Multiple light courts draw natural light deep into the plan, and the layout was designed around how the family actually moves through the home, so every level flows into the next.
